Monarch: Legacy of Monsters

This Godzilla spin-off series offers a dark story that, compared to the monster genre films, puts people and their dramas at the centre of the plot.

The settings in mountains, deserts, jungles and islands are magnificent.

Everything is developed on two timelines, that of the 1950s and that of the present day.

The conception and development of the monsters are impeccable, as is the editing.

Fantastic is the presence of Kurt Russell and his son Wyatt who play the same character but in different eras.

The series is definitely of value, although one might have expected a faster pace.

However, the presence of Kurt Russell, who unquestionably steals the show, emphasises a cast that is not always up to the mark, especially the key characters.

In some of the characters, the performances fail to convey their complexity and soul.

Nevertheless, the series lives up to expectations, indeed exceeds them.
